Monday, Oct 12 to Sunday, Oct 18, 2009: high 77, low 26

Late afternoon picture looking east toward the wicoti with the four sets of tipi poles standing. Today was more like a March day: the morning and early afternoon was just above freezing and damp with drizzling rain and wind. Then mid afternoon the clouds blew off, taking the wind with them, the temperature soared to over 50 degrees, and there was a gorgeous sunset. A lot of change in a couple afternoon hours.

A few weeks back, two sets of tipi poles had fallen over. Am not sure if they were blown over by the driving wind, or if cattle rubbed on them and tipped them over. I’m leaning toward the wind since there were no cattle tracks visible.

Anyway, Monday, which most likely was the Fall Wingsprings Sunrise Day, Dan and I set up those two sets of tipi poles. As you can see, there still was snow on the ground. The reason I say “most likely” Monday was the Sunrise Day is that due to weather and my travel schedule, I only have sunrise pictures from October 7th and October 17th. It appears that the former shows the cockpit shadow about the same distance south of the Butte as the latter is north of the Butte.
