Monday, Mar 30 to Sunday, Apr 5, 2009: high 59, low 12

A spring blizzard blew in late Friday night. High winds, very low visibility, and snow all of Saturday and most of Sunday. Dangerous conditions. The wind continuously blew the snow into new configurations and quickly buried some objects, such as the trailer above on Saturday. The picture below was taken just before sunset on Friday, looking southwest across the springs. To the untrained eye, no way to know a blizzard is about to hit.

The weather changed drastically in just a few hours. This afternoon i finally bundled up to go outside, and fortunately the door swings in because the snow was banked high up against it, as this picture shows.

Scooped out both doors and also cleared the snow off of the cabin subflooring we had installed last weekend, as it was completely buried. And the drift in the hocoka is pretty deep!

Then i snow shoed for a couple hours to look at the fascinating forms and shadows.

I really like the gracefulness of the arc below.

And as is often the case, today’s sunset was spectacular. In about a week the sun will set directly on the Butte, thereby marking the year’s first Wingsprings sunset day.
