Oko Napcinyunka

Monday, Apr 19 to Sunday, Apr 25, 2010: high 74, low 32

April showers, such as this driving rain on Wednesday, have brought a lot of moisture. And as the picture shows, the drainage situation needs to be improved so that the water will flow away from the house [which is behind the photograph and to the right]. When the final grading is completed, water in this area will flow pretty much along the pathway of the little ditch at the top left, and continue on to the bay before the bathhouse. Then it will flow away from the hocoka and down the hill toward the wicoti.

In times such as these, the absence of gutters and downspouts causes extra work. But ditching water reminds me of being young and living over at Bear Creek. It used to be a lot of fun to dig ditches to drain water out of the dirt tracks around the house. We would put little twigs and other items that floated into the pools and watch them follow our narrow ditches away from the house.
