It is May Day. No parade, pole, basket or queen here at Wingsprings. But is it merely a pleasant coincidence that some of the plum trees are in full bloom? This day is, in many cultures, seen as the beginning of summer and is associated with fertility. Other plum trees in the draw have already bloomed and their petals have blown away in this spring’s incessant winds. This Saturday afternoon, though, the sweet aroma of these blooming plum flowers is like an ancient scent of time.
