Five years ago this week, in 2006, we were busy learning how to stucco. We started on the west-facing wall of the mechanical room, then moved to the north and then the east-facing wall, shown in the photo above. Dan probably is rubbing his eyes after some dust flew into them when he opened the cement bag. The stucco formula consists of cement, lime, gravel and water. The dry ingredients are put into the mixer and the water is added slowly until the “mud” is smooth yet still has some stickiness. The mud is then applied onto a wall that has two layers of tar paper and some sort of lath or wire screen affixed to it.
