Monday, Dec 2 to Sunday, Dec 8, 2013: high 53, low -28

By Wednesday afternoon this fall’s third snowstorm was on the ground. The wind was blowing and the temperature was falling seemingly as fast as the sun was setting. The daytime high reached only 11 degrees. A mule deer buck was lying on the steep slope above, out of the wind. In part because of his positioning, when we startled each other, he was upright in a moment, fresh fluffy snow blowing off his body as he bounded away. In an instant he was gone from sight. The distance between his tracks was at least ten feet.
