This week began with Cory and Luis staining the 2×8 tongue & groove pine boards. The first step is to apply a coat of conditioner, then the initial coat of stain–colonial maple in this case. Finally, a second coat of stain–golden pecan–was applied. Luis is brushing on the stain and Cory is wiping it off. The two coats of stain create a finish that has more depth and variation than a single coat or color. By the end of the week we were finished installing the boards on about two-thirds of the library ceiling.
