Toward the end of this week, Corey built the frame for a hidden door, then we installed it in the northeast corner of the library. In the photo above, he is about half way through the process of nailing tongue & groove siding onto the frame. He started at the top of the frame and is working his way toward the floor.

In the photo below, the siding is all nailed on, the column is fastened in place, and a piece of plywood fills the gap from to door frame to the corner of the library. The plywood represents the width of the bookcases that will span from the floor to the ceiling along the library’s north walls (to the left in the picture below). The door will hinge near the plywood; the greenish column will swing with the door and when closed will conceal the gap between the door and the wall to its right in the photo below.

The idea is that behind the door will be a “Murphy bed” for guests. The door will swing open against the bookcase, and the bed will pivot down from an upright position.
