Tuesday afternoon we burned the memory sticks that had been stuck in the snow outside the South Dakota Art Museum a year ago on December 29th to commemmorate the victims of the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre. The memory sticks outlined the size and shape of the mass grave into which 146 Lakota bodies were trampled and buried on January 3rd and 4th, 1891.
