Retribution? Just before daybreak one morning early this week, there were a half dozen or so does in the hocoka, and a young buck near the eastern entrance. One of the does was nipping at the perennials, which are right beside a tree, so i quickly opened a window and shouted, “Hey!” That spooked them and off they ran to the east and then down the slope south behind the bathhouse. This afternoon, on my way to the trail camera, i noticed that the top of one of the young junipers south of the bathhouse was biten off, and that another was nearly destroyed. This destroyed one is in the foreground of the picture above. You can see the “topped” one in the center of the picture, toward the house. No idea if those does and that buck were the ones that topped and destroyed these trees, but if they did, perhaps it was because they were paying me back for startling them.
