While walking just west of the house at 3:17 the afternoon after Christmas, this shell caught my eye. It is the exoskeleton of a large grasshopper. There were many of these living and breeding in late summer. According to the internet, the female grasshopper dies after laying her eggs. Perhaps this is the exoskeleton of a female that had laid her eggs.
