This Sunday morning there was frost clinging to plants, such as this tree, and to the wire cages around it and the other trees in the hochoka. The question is: is it rime ice or hoar frost? Reading online suggests that rime ice is usually the result of foggy weather conditions whereas hoar frost typically follows a clear night. Both rime ice and hoar frost need damp air and a temperature below freezing. But whereas hoar frost requires calm winds, rime ice can form in windy conditions.
