Wednesday morning at 6:19 the moon was full and that afternoon i decided to begin stuccoing, a job that i could and should have undertaken any time during the summer or earlier this fall. Its been seven years or more since i’ve stuccoed and am pretty sure that back then there was another person helping. Back then we used metal mesh but i decided to try a wire mesh (self-furring chicken wire) this time and you can see it in the central bay above and on both sides of it. It took a while to get the tools and equipment assembled, but finally i fired up the mixer and began troweling on the stucco. The mixing, troweling, scratching—every step had issues. And after finishing and letting the stucco set for a few hours, i decided to tear it all off and redo things. So in the picture above, the stucco that had been on the central portion of the wall can be seen crumbled on the ground. Before long, all the stucco was on the ground. Then i drove to Rapid City and purchased the metal mesh and on Thursday stapled it over the wire mesh and tried stuccoing again. Things went a lot better.
