Oko Ake Nunpa

Tuesday early afternoon Dan and i removed the old fencing around Wazi Ishnala. It was worn out. With new fencing, we enclosed a larger area beneath the drip-line of the tree. As mentioned in previous okos, the intent of the fencing is to keep cattle out. The old tree has never produced offspring in the immediate vicinity probably due to cattle tramping the ground while enjoying the shade during summertime. Misun Jordan verified that Wazi Ishnala is producing new cones with viable seeds. We hope to protect those cones and give the seeds a chance to germinate and grow without cattle inadvertently and unintentionally killing them.
